Soundly Vegan – Testing plants on humans since 2009!
Soundly Vegan is a place where I am able to share my love of creating wholesome botanical food and, hopefully, to inspire others to join in the creative process of nourishing themselves. To my mind, somewhere along the way we lost the love of nourishment. We’re certainly able to feed ourselves, but that is not the same thing. We take time to do so many other things in our lives these days and yet take so little to meet one of our most vital needs. It is very important to me to show and/or remind people, if through a photograph alone, that food is more than what comes out of a box or a package. I want to awaken their senses and entice them into craving nutrient-dense foods that will nourish them well. I want people diving into bulk bins to investigate their contents and to put their noses deeply into spice jars and inhale stories from around the world. I want to expand people’s comfort zones and have them approach food with broader strokes that obliterate the lines defining the ordinary.
Naturally colorful food is healthy food.
Naturally colorful food is beautiful food.
Naturally colorful food is human food.
The exploration of new foods is exciting to me. I post recipes of dishes I create, that can, at times, incorporate an ingredient that isn’t commonplace or that will use an ingredient in an unexpected way. Experiencing different textures and flavors can revolutionize the way a person reacts to food and whether or not they will continue to include that food in their diet. The botanical world is brimming with amazing foods that put our Standard American Diet to shame. If what I do in my own tiny corner of the blogosphere inspires even one person to integrate more whole foods into their lives, then we have both become enriched.

Hello D, congratulations for you new endeavor.
Will check in from time to time,
Regards from Florida,
Cherry Jo.
Hey wow! Just realized you have a blog and it’s beautiful!!
How have I missed this?
Whereabouts in the “beautiful Pacific Northwest”? I’d love to get together sometime – like at one of our “beautiful Pacific Northwest” vegetarian friendly restaurants!!!
Hiya Tofu,
I believe we’re neighbors, actually. I too live in Tacoma, up near Point Defiance Park. Thank you for your kind comments about our blog, my partner and I have just recently started it. It’s turned into a heck of a lot of fun for me.
I actually sent you an email once, though it was probably lost in the ether. It was regarding volunteering at the Vegfest. We’ve signed up for this year and can’t wait to participate. Anyway, I’m rambling. I’d love to meet up with you and share a nosh.
Regards,
D
Oh sad! I never got it your e-mail! Because I totally would have answered!!
I am SO bummed this is the first year I have to miss VegFest in about a zillion years. Maybe you can do a blog post about it so I’ll know what sorts of yumminess I’ve missed!!
I’m in Puyallup but venture over to Tacoma fairly often (Trader Joes and Marlenes, etc..) We used to live right next to Metropolitan Market on Proctor – still one of my fave neighborhoods EVER to live in!
Do y’all ever do brunch at Quickies Too? My guy’s coming out from New Mexico for a visit in a few weeks (Froggy from VB) and it’s one of his favorite places – we might have to make plans to meet up – there or somewhere!!
We love, love, love Proctor. The Met Market is my second home, heh, I was just there today prodding the dairy department guy to stock So Delicious’ coffee creamers.
We had lunch at Quickies Too earlier this week for the first time and it was a really nice experience. I’m sure we’ll be heading back for their brunch soon.
If you’d like to get together when your man is in town we can surely do that, or if you’d rather wait and do it at a time when it wouldn’t cut into your quality time with him that’s just fine.
Send me an email at Soundlyvegan@gmail.com and we can arrange things in a more private venue.
Regards,
D
yay for vegan! just subscribed… can’t wait to make some of the yum recipes you have here. thanks for the blog.
You’re very welcome and thank you for the kind words.

D.
Hello from France & congratulations for your wonderful blog!Vegan is the best way of life!Regards.
*waves to France* I’m glad you found us and thank you for the compliments. As to veganism being the best way of life? I agree, but then again I’m slightly biased, heh.
Your username is making me crave French blackberry jam on a baguette! =D
Honestly, nothing I could make here could rival a true French baguette. Even a week old stale one. I surrender. You win. heh
The “baguette” is one of specialities which i prefer in the french gastronomy because otherwise there are mainly meat dishes. I would indeed send you one but it would be really really gone stale…..
Aww, thank you for the thought. Perhaps if we ever visit France, then, the baguette is on you. =D
This site is great. I am looking forward to trying your recipes.
Thank you, it’s good to have you here.
D.
I think your blog is just amazing. So many great vegan recipes and beautiful photography! I look forward to cooking many of these recipes as I try to take on the vegetarian/vegan lifestyle.

Hi,
I just came across your blog searching for a non-dairy broccoli casserole recipe. I used yours as an inspiration, and it came out delicious! I’ll be using that vegan bechamel regularly from now on!
Thanks!!

I’m glad to hear that you liked it, LLN and hope that I can continue to inspire you in the future.

I’m a new vegetarian, and I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate this blog — especially the seitan recipes! I’d been struggling to make seitan that was as good as the pre-packaged stuff. Thanks to your blog, I’ve finally done it. Please keep up the good work!
Best wishes!
Thank you so much for the kind words!
Warm regards,
D

Hey there! I so love your blog and your story! I personally have lost myself in taking care of others and have been trying to get back to me…Yes…I have children and a husband. Love them dearly but they have a tendency to suck the life out of one
Do you think that perhaps you could help me? I’m not sure of how to do this.
I’m still a novice to the blogging but want to share and give you credit for the recipes that I just can not pass up
Peace!
